For the fashion-obsessed, nothing is as satisfying as walking into a beautiful, well-organized closet that displays all of your favorite pieces so you can see and grab them at a moment’s notice. While we would all love an organized closet, many of us find that our closets are less than put together, and may not look the way that we want them to. There is no need to worry, even if you aren’t naturally super organized, there are easy ways you can reorganize your closet and have it looking its best, and it isn’t as scary as it seems.
Here are our favorite tips for easily organizing your closet. Give them a try and trust us, it will make a major difference.
Start With Some Inventory
While this may seem like it’s going to take a while, and may not be completely necessary it is really important to start any closet organization process by taking stock of what you have in your closet, to begin with. After all, taking time to find a place for that old vest from 10 years ago that you never wear isn’t exactly worth all of the effort. This is a great time to get rid of extra clutter and finally make a decision regarding what you can finally get rid of. It may sound scary, but it is actually quite fulfilling to start purging items like this.
Once you know what you are working with, you can start organizing properly.
Start Using That Empty Space
There may be parts of your closet space that you aren’t using and this space can be the key to keeping your closet more organized. That blank wall area in the corner of your closet may be the perfect spot to hang your handmade bags or necklaces. That big blank spot on the floor may even be a place to put a bin of clutches. Taking the time to really evaluating how you are using every square inch of your closet can make all of the difference in how your closet is able to function.
Put Like Items Together
Many times, when looking at your closet you can easily feel like your items aren’t organized, just because you can’t find what you are looking for. An easy solution? Put like items together when reorganizing your closet. This means your floral blouses are all going together, your spring maxis are all in the same section and your collection of jeans are all corralled in one place. Some people even prefer to corral items by color, if that works for your wardrobe. It will not only help your closet look better, but it will make it way easier to find items when you need to find certain pieces.
Make it Easy to Access Your Top Shelves
There are many of us who get so excited about using all of the space in our closets that we start putting things on those really, really high shelves. However, if you can’t actually access those shelves without moving furniture or asking your much taller friend to grab it for you, this isn’t an organized or functional addition to your closet. Add built-in set stools, rolling ladders or even a step stool that always stays in your closet to your space to make sure you can always reach what you need to.
Get New Hangers
Yes. It is an expense, but it is one that is totally worth the cost, and actually probably not as expensive as you think. If you look in your closet right now, chances are you have all types of miss-matched hangers from dry cleaners, dress rentals and random packs of hangers you bought in the past. Get rid of them all and invest in quality, matching hangers. It will help keep all of your clothing at the same level, make it easier to find garments and will make your closet look much less chaotic.
