How to Disconnect and Enjoy a “Staycation”

Posted on

Summer time is the season for relaxing, unwinding and enjoying a great vacation to get away from it all. However, a trip out of town isn’t always possible or within budget. This doesn’t mean that you can relax and take a load off. You can still get all of the benefits of a vacation without leaving home. This can be possible with a “staycation.” The key to really getting the most out of a staycation is to learn how to disconnect from the stressors of your everyday life and let go of the things that leave you feeling overwhelmed.

With this in mind, here are a few tips on how you can disconnect and make the most of your staycation experience, goddess.

1. Put on an “Away” Notice

If you want to really disconnect from work and from your obligations during your staycation, you need to let people know that you are stepping away from your obligations and won’t be available. Let your boss know and even put up your “out of office” notification so you can really disconnect.

2. Plan Activities for Yourself

A staycation is about more than just taking time off work. It order to really disconnect and make the most of your experience, you need to plan your staycation like you would a normal vacation. Make a list of things you want to do and plan activities for yourself. Whether you have always wanted to go to your local museum or if you want to go get a massage, make sure that you put it in your schedule.

3. Give Yourself an Electronic Break

Want to disconnect? Then really pull the plug. During your staycation focus on doing the things that you normally don’t get to do while you’re at home. Part of this means giving yourself a break from electronics. Don’t bury yourself in your phone, take a break from video games and do more than just plop down in front of the television the whole time.

4. Get Outside and Move

If you want to plan a staycation that is really refreshing and re-energizing, then you should plan on getting outside and moving around. Grap your favorite handmade bag, pack some snack and go for walks, visit a hiking trail that you have yet to explore or go on a bike ride. It doesn’t even need to be exercise. Plan a day trip to the downtown of your hometown and explore like a tourist. The more you get up, get out and move around the better you will feel.

5. Do Something New

If you want a staycation to feel like a vacation, then you need to push yourself outside your comfort zone. Try something new, whether it is a new activity, a new food or anything in between. If you push yourself to try something new, even if you aren’t leaving home, it will feel even more like a vacation to get away from it all. You know that re-energized feeling you get when you travel and enjoy new, exciting experiences? You can get that same experience without the cost of travel.

These are all easy ways that you can disconnect from the things that get you down and enjoy a staycation that will truly have you feeling relaxed. In fact, you may love your staycation so much that you plan for another “home vacation” soon. Have a beautiful staycation!
